The Fangirls of CIS
Almost everyone has their inner nerdy side. Really, we’re not kidding!
In the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, “nerds” are basically people who are good at computing, play video games, wear glasses, and read 8 kg of comic books in one night. In the 2010s, the definition of “nerd” changed significantly. “Nerds” are now called “fangirls” and “fanboys”. Or in popular-people vocabulary, “losers”. We, the authors ourselves, are also fangirls. We pretty much write fanfictions, own unpopular Tumblr blogs, binge-watch our fandom’s shows, complain that the book is better than the film, go nuts during our never-ending hiatus between seasons, mourn over our favourite characters’ deaths, e.t.c… And the list goes on and on and on....
In this short article, we’ll have a chat with two of the schools’ fangirls, so let’s hear ‘em!
CIS Student Insight: Hello girls! Can you introduce yourselves?
Lam Dinh: I’m Lam Dinh, from 7C. Hi!~
Maia: I’m Maia, from 7C.
CIS Student Insight: First question, do you consider yourselves a “fangirl”?
Lam Dinh: What are you talking about? I am a fangirl!
Maia: Eh...Depends on certain days.
CIS Student Insight: Okay...What “fandoms” are you in?
Lam Dinh: I’m a Sherlockian and Hetalian. I’m also into RWBY, Star Wars, and Assassination Classroom, and The After-Dinner Mysteries (a 2011 Japanese TV series). In general, I’m a multifandom dumpster...
Maia: I’m into Shadow Hunters and Supernatural.
CIS Student Insight: What are the biggest struggles that your fandoms had to withstand and go through?
Lam Dinh: Waiting for Sherlock Season 4.... I call it “waiting in agony”….
Maia: If my favourite character dies, I’m so mad.
CIS Student Insight: How did you get into your fandoms?
Lam Dinh: Louise (the author) dragged me into them, and spoiled almost everything. (laughs evilly)
Maia: My friend told me about the show. At first, I thought it was stupid, but after I watched it, it’s actually really addictive and awesome.
CIS Student Insight: Finally, what do you love the most about your fandoms?
Lam Dinh: Our fandom is crazy during every single hiatus. Yay~~~
Maia: It has really, really, really, really, really, really, adorkable characters~~~
