Interview with Author Kit Ong
What made you want to write an online children’s book?
“ Because I do not think I am good enough to write books for adults. And the best stories I remember are from my childhood, and children’s stories are the purest and simplest stories out there.”
How does your creative process work when it comes to writing?
“ I will spend time thinking of a fresh story I have not read before I will continue to think and rethink about the same story over a period of time, until the story is fully formed in my head. There are still secrets about the story I do not know of and that is the fun in writing it. As, I write I am also the reader discovering the story as it unfolds before me.”
Which author inspired you?
“ Haruki Murakami.”
Your previous book was written by multiple kids point of view.
Is it more interesting to write in a kid's perspective?
“Yes. Because making it different every time is fun. And writing should be fun even though it is painful.”
Talking about your previous book “Newwland”, it send a very strong message across. What message does your new book send across?
“No matter how bad things are if you wish for it good luck will always come to you. And good luck can come in surprising forms.”
What is your goal with “Macaron”?
“ The goal is simple, it is simply to have readers who love to read it.”
Can you tell me a little bit about “Macaron”?
“It is about a blind old Japanese man who makes hand-crafted maneki-neko “lucky cats”. And he gives them away to strangers for free who need good luck most.”
Why did you choose to publish your children books online instead of on a hard copy?
“ Because I can self-publish.”
What message would you like to send to your children readers?
“ Never feel sad about your circumstances. Good things always can happen in the worse of times.”
Which kind of issue do you want to tackle in your books?
“ About topical issues that are on our minds and in our lives everyday.”
