MATERIALS
Stapler
Duct tape
Ruler
Scissors
Cotton fabric “35cm x 21cm”
Cut out “35cm x 21cm” of fabric
2. Take your duct tape and stick it directly on the back of your material. Repeat this until the back of your material is covered with duct tape. Just slightly overlap the tape on each other.
3. Once you’re done taping the back of the material. Cut the excess tape sticking out of the fabric.
4. Now you’re left with the material on one side and duct tape on the other. Your material should be vertical. Your material should be vertical for the whole time. You want to take the bottom edge and fold it up a little bit. Fold the material side against the duct tape side. Then tape it. It should look like duct tape on duct tape. The tape should be horizontal and from left to right. If there is any excess tape left do not fold it just trim it. You have hemmed it now.
5. Fold your material and leave 8 cm for the top bit which will be your flap later. Your duct tape should face you now and the material should be inside. The flap with the material should be facing you. Take your stapler and start at the bottom at the corner you don’t want any gaps. Start stapling along really near to each other, try getting it straight. The staples should be aligned vertically. Just continue stapling the other side.
6. Now you have both sides stapled. Seal it with tape. Take a normal strip of tape and fold it over. Feel free to secure it with more than 1 piece of tape. Line it up with the opening of the purse. Fold the excess tape really tightly, squeeze it all down. It there is excess tape at the bottom trim it. Repeat it on the other side.
7.Now that you’re done sealing both sides. You have to turn it inside out without breaking anything. Do it as gently as you can. Squish the material into the corners. Now it’s starting to take shape.
8. The lid or the flap is the only that isn’t hemmed. The top is overlapping from where you stapled. Snip a tiny bit of the bottom side of the lid or as you might say on top of where you stapled.
9. Now that you’ve snipped it on both sides. Fold it and secure it with a little bit of tape. Chop of the excess. Do the same for the other side.
10.You have hemmed in your sides. Now you just have to decide how far you want your flap to come over. If you are unhappy with your flap because it’s too long. Just cut it a bit.
11.Fold over the very top. Hem that bit. Cut the excess.
12.Now you’re done!!!!!
Conclusion: With just a few supplies, a little time and absolutely no prior experience needed, you can make a cute purse! You can create smaller bags or bigger bags from using the same techniques and material. You can even personalize them by adding whatever you want.
